TransmissionMap

Tribal Layer Context

Maps and GIS data often used by transmission planners do not fully or accurately reflect Tribal ancestral lands and sacred sites due to both the need to protect data sovereignty and fundamental differences between Tribal and Western concepts of land boundaries. (The WestTEC 10-year study report, for example, intentionally chose not to depict Tribal ancestral lands and sacred sites boundaries on the WestTEC transmission solution maps for this reason. At the same time, WestTEC expressed the shared understanding that these lands warrant respectful treatment in any siting procedure.)

This map shows boundaries (Census TIGER/Line and BIA AIAN-LAR) as administrative representations for statistical and illustrative purposes only. Their depiction does not constitute a determination of jurisdictional authority, rights of ownership, or entitlement, and they are not legal land descriptions. This layer does not attempt to represent full Tribal ancestral lands or sacred sites.

For consultation purposes or to understand broader ancestral footprints, please refer to authoritative contact databases (like HUD TDAT or BIA) or explore resources like Native-Land.ca rather than relying solely on this boundary map. Engaging in direct Tribal consultation is always the recommended best practice for any transmission planning or siting.

⚠ Live wildfire data is stale

The live wildfire data is old — beyond the safe limit. The hourly feed may be broken or delayed, so the active fire, smoke, and incident layers have been turned off to avoid showing dangerously outdated fire positions.

Do not rely on stale fire data for any safety or evacuation decision. It will re-enable automatically once a fresh update arrives. Meanwhile, WECC's Wildfire Risk Dashboard shows current wildfires near western transmission infrastructure.

⚠ Live weather-alert data is stale

The live weather-alert data is old — beyond the safe limit. The feed may be broken or delayed, so the weather alerts layer has been turned off to avoid showing outdated warnings. Expired alerts are already removed automatically; what remains may still be incomplete.

Do not rely on stale alert data for any safety decision. It will re-enable automatically once a fresh update arrives. Meanwhile, weather.gov/alerts shows current official NWS alerts.
